lab results

i had a doctor’s appt this week & i knew it wasn’t going to be good – but i never imagined it would be as bad as it was.  when i walked in my doc said ‘so you’ve stopped taking the meds?’.  um, nope, been taking as directed.

my labs are worse now than when i was first diagnosed. so bad that i’m now not getting enough oxygen in my red blood cells.
T4 69

T3 21.4

TSH .01

so now i’m taking  20mg of neomercazole a day and next blood test is in 4 weeks.  iron should help the oxygen/blood thing. and while i didn’t discuss it w the doc, i’m going to start taking some calcium.

i’m not shakey like i was @ diagnosis – i just need to move constantly.  i’m a little itchy.  and tired a lot.

argh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  fuck fuck fuck

herbal meds

in my last post, i mentioned i started taking some herbal meds.     you’re supposed to take them 2x a day but i kept forgetting to take it so would end up with 1x a day.  that’s when i decided i’d take the whole dosage in one shot.   probably did that for 5 days in a row.   and then started to break out.

and breakout in a massive way.  not my face too much but my neck, chest, shoulders, back.  so badly that i couldnt wear a v neck shirt.  so badly that i thought about wearing a turtleneck even though it was high 30s/ high 80s (i decided not to).     then i got my period almost 2 wks early.   and then i started having really nasty stinky farts.

so i stopped taking it :)

my natropath  informed me it’s actually 5x a day u should take it but the 2x is for convenience.  i shouldn’t have been taking it all at once.    i havent taken it for a week now.  figured i’d let my body chill out & hope the zits go away before trying it again.   they’re going away slowly.

how i feel update

found a new site tonite that looks pretty good and seems to have an active community – thyroid support centre

i have another week until i get my blood drawn & already have a doc appt for the end of january. it will be very interesting to see how things are going. i’m feeling pretty decent – energetic, brain seems to be working better, libido is even starting to return. probably most settling is my heart rate. it doesn’t feel like it’s racing all the time.

i am getting the occasional hyper symptom. every once & again my hands will feel shakey. and the weird itching appears that i had years ago when first diagnosed (prior to diagnosis, i was frequently itchy everywhere but at some point that stopped. thru out the graves, only 1 place was consistently itchy – my right nipple -WTF?!?!?!).

while i’m very good at remembering to take my thyroid meds, i’m not so great at remembering to take the other vitamins & such i want to take. i’m trying to take cQ10 as i’ve heard good things about it – especially for the gums. am also trying to remember to take iron (ferroous sulfate).

tonite i’m going to start some herbs to help with the brain fog, liver detox & bloating as i’m wondering how much of my tummy is graves fat vs bloat. i’m taking ginko biloba (good for blood flow, free radicals & clotting. mixed research on memory assistance), milk thistle for the liver and avena sativa which seems to assist with the detox, increase energy & help with the libido (btw, this is oats. yes, just oats).

10mg for 3 weeks

i’ve been on 10mg for a day short of 3 weeks now.  i think my heart has chilled out a little bit but not entirely.  when i go to bed at nite it seems to be beating pretty fast.   tomorrow i drop down to 5mg.   i wonder if the drug has done much of anything.  not due for another blood test for another 3 weeks or so but would love to get one to see if anything has changed in 3 wks – doubtful – i think it takes 5 to work thru ur blood system.

no remission

having had normal tsh/t3/t4 numbers for quite some time (14 months), i went off my 5mg of neomercazole the end of september. when i had my levels tested 5 weeks later, i was almost as bad as when first diagnosed (numbers below).

which sucks. now at 7 weeks off meds, i was feeling better – like my old self before graves. my doctor suggested maybe i like being hyper.

yeah- i do! i like the energy, i like the metabolism – and i had that all before i had graves so why can’t i now???

although i don’t like the heart palpitations i’ve been having. so i’ve just started taking 10mg neomercazole to get me back into ‘normal’ again.
